Matt’s rise started in 2007, his first club gig was at the legendary Turnmills for The Gallery (the UK’s leading weekly club night). Booked to play a deep house set, he was instantly working with the best in the business and quickly built up the all-important knowledge of how to get a dance floor moving. The Gallery have played an important role in shaping Matt’s rise, he has never failed to impress and when Turnmills sadly closed its doors he was taken over to Ministry of Sound which is where Matt really began to flourish. Having played in the World famous Main Room and regularly in The Bar, Matt grew in confidence behind the decks and with it came the accolades. Matt was awarded the title of The Gallery’s ‘Future Hero DJ’ in 2009 and in 2010 was nominated as ‘Best breakthrough DJ’ at Ministry of Sound.
Away from The Gallery Matt was busy carving his name into the scene. In the summer of 2008 he was selected out of 650+ entrants to play at the first ever Dance Island festival, from here he gained a brief residency with Twilo at Pacha, went on to close the main stage in his homecoming gig at Redfest and even squeezed in his first international appearance at Tramps, Tenerife. Having played in some of the best clubs London has to offer he was soon noticed by London’s fastest growing and most forward thinking promotion ElectronicSessions. ‘ES’ gave Matt the chance to shine and after putting in some impressive appearances they quickly awarded him with a residency. Under the ‘ElectronicSessions’ banner Matt has been given the chance to develop his sound further, playing warm up and peak time sets bi-monthly alongside some of the biggest names in Progressive House and Trance.
Handing over, following on and warming up for many of the World's finest DJ's has become second nature. Matt has had the opportunity to live the dream, play to packed out dance floors and hang out with some of his idols. This rightly so lead to Matt being named as 'The One To Watch' by Trackitdown and shortly after being branded as 'The One To Watch' by internationally sold magazine 'TillLate Magazine'. Over the years Matt's sound has developed and with it so has the way he plays. 2011 was the year the digital conversion was made, no longer lugging around bags of vinyl or a wallet of CDs, Matt now uses Ableton to get a dance floor moving. Whilst using a laptop can be seen by some as “cheating”, they only have to look at what has been achieved to see Matt is no amateur. The new found freedom of digital DJing has not only meant Matt is able to incorporate a certain live aspect into shows, throwing in live loops on the fly, but has given him the tools and freedom to explore music production.
Deciding that the way forward was to play your own tracks rather than those of others, 2011 became the year of music production. In the first year, 6 releases flowed out of the studio consisting of both remixes and originals, signed to labels from the UK all the way to Argentina. Matt's sound is very much a working project but its fair to say that each release has showed a little more maturity and depth than the last, tickling the ears of many. A remix signed to 1980 recordings, was a featured track on Trackitdown.net and his first original, 'Ze Drum', had its first ever spin on Ministry of Sound Radio. Not bad for a new producer on the scene! Still very much learning and with great depths of sound to explore, it’s only a matter of time before you see a release of Matt's storming up the charts
Every DJ wants a place to call 'Home' and so FreshEra was born. Teaming up with his brother Joe, the promotion was set up to showcase the new era of dance music. FreshEra started out in a small venue hidden away in Oxford Street, from there it went on to rock the 'Toilet' - Public Life before finding its current home on the doorstep in Surrey. FreshEra is now more than just showcasing new DJs, FreshEra is about a new movement, changing the local scene and bringing something different to the normal commercial table. Away from the clubs you will have seen the FreshEra boys hosting the dance tent at Redfest festival, mixing it up with a full host of DJs and live acts. As far as FreshEra is concerned it really is all about the party.
The ElectronicSessions and FreshEra resident is taking things underground and delving into the 'Heads Down’ driving goodness of House, Tech House and Techno.
The past has been cemented with experience and the future is looking to be even more exciting:
" A definite one to look out for " (Andi Durrant)
